Takeda Shingen is considered to be one of the most powerful Daimyo of the Warring State Period of Japan. He is most famous for his rivalry with Uesugi Kenshin. Both Takeda and Kenshin were renowned for their martial skill on the battlefield. In a series of four battles the two Daimyo fought to a draw in almost every battle. The last battle between the two was reported to have the fiercest fighting. Kenshin broke through Takeda's lines and came after Takeda with his sword. Takeda fought Kenshin with only a steel war fan. At the end of the battle neither Daimyo had defeated the other. However, despite this battle as well as Takeda's victory over the combined armies of Nobunaga and Tokugawa, Takeda finally succumbed to old age and died 52. This a commemorative sword of Takeda Shingen and the Period of the Warring States.
